Professor Ken Kwan Ming Hao

Ken Hao, a sociologist by training, is currently a research scholar at Columbia University, and he is also in charge of programs at the Center for United States-China Arts Exchange at the university. He has been an integral part of all the Center projects in the last decade. In 2004 the Yunnan provincial government awarded him the "Friends of Yunnan" medal in recognition of his significant contribution to the betterment of the province.

Hao, whose research is on symbolic interaction, focusing on the symbolic significance of film and food, joined the Columbia faculty and the Center in 1996. His research on the cinematic representation of food has broadened the scope of film studies. His writing on film has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times.
